Reflection
Standard: 8.SP.4 Understand that patterns of association can also be seen in bivariate categorical data by displaying frequencies and relative frequencies in a two-way table. Construct and interpret a two-way table summarizing data on two categorical variables collected from the same subjects. Use relative frequencies calculated for rows or columns to describe possible association between the two variables. For example, collect data from students in your class on whether or not they have a curfew on school nights and whether or not they have assigned chores at home. Is there evidence that those who have a curfew also tend to have chores?
1. REWRITE THE STANDARD IN YOUR OWN WORDS. HOW DOES THIS ASSIGNMENT RELATE TO THE STANDARD?
There was one standard for this assignment which was 8.SP.4. This standard required us to understand that patterns of association can be seen if the the frequencies and relative frequencies are displayed on a two way table. This standard was to also be able to create and translate a two way table and to summarize the data on two variables collected from same subjects. This assignment relates to the standard because I used two way tables to display frequencies and relative frequencies (rows/columns). This assignment also relates to the standard because I used two way tables to search for possible associations and I was able to describe/explain associations between 2 variables.
2. WHAT ARE THE STEPS YOU TOOK TO COMPLETE AND DO WELL ON THIS ASSIGNMENT?
There was many steps I took in order to complete and do well on this assignment. First, I had to take a survey of 50 different people and asked them 2 questions if they were born in Los Angeles and if they were a Dodgers fan. I then took the results from the survey to create 3 two way tables. I then answered the 8 given questions, then I wrote a 4 paragraph essay explaining the results. I then decorated the poster and turned it in. These are the steps I took to complete this assignment.
3. THIS ASSIGNMENT DEMONSTRATES THE FOLLOWING STRENGTHS…
This assignment shows/demonstrates many different strengths. One strength this assignment demonstrates is that I am able to create a two way table by using the data I collected (survey). This assignment also shows I can use two way tables to show the relative frequency of both rows and columns. This assignment lastly shows I can answer questions related to relative frequencies and write a essay explaining the results. These are some strengths this assignment demonstrates.
4. I COULD HAVE IMPROVED MY WORK ON THIS ASSIGNMENT BY...
I could have improved my work on this assignment in many different ways. First, I could have been more detailed with my survey results (ex. I only color coded the different survey results but I didn't make a key to what each color meant.) I also could have creatively decorated the poster and make it more eye appealing because everything looked similar (it was all typed and printed in the same font and size). These are some ways I could have improved on this assignment.
5. HOW WILL YOU APPLY THE SKILLS YOU LEARNED FROM THIS ASSIGNMENT IN EITHER THE REAL WORLD WHEN YOU ARE AN ADULT OR IN OTHER CLASSES WHILE YOU ARE STILL A STUDENT?
I could apply the skills I have learned from this assignment in many different ways. I could use the skill of knowing about the two way tables in future tests and also in future high school classes. I could also teach this skill to future students who will learn algebra or to students who need help with the concept of the two way tables. I could use this skill in the future if I become a marketing manager for some type of company, I would be able to use two way tables to present on data statistics for marketing trends and etc. These are some ways I could apply the skill in the future.
