7-VA-CE-2.1 Develop increasing skill in the use of at least three different media (pencil, then clay, then paint)
Reflection
1. Rewrite the standard in your own words. How does the assignment relate to the standard?
7-VA-CE-2.1 was to practice using 3 or more things to create an artwork. The assignment relates to the standard because I used my hands to sculpture out the bowl. I also used the plastic tools to create patterns. I also used clay as a medium to create my artwork. I also used paint to decorate the artwork. Those are the things that relate to the standard.
2. What steps did you take to complete the assignment?
My first piece got cracked during the smoothing/painting process. My second piece I started out by rolling the chunk of clay into a ball. Then I used the pinch pot method to create depth of the bowl. After I drew patterns and made the edges smooth. Those are the steps I took to finish my artwork.
3. This assignment demonstrates the following strengths...
This assignment shows I could create pottery with the given medium. It also shows I could follow the given guidelines to create the artwork. This assignment also shows I could use the subtractive skills to carve out patterns/designs. It also shows I could finish in the given time limit. These are the things that demonstrate what this assignment shows.
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by...
I could have improved by being more careful during the smoothing/painting process. I could have also improved by creating more unique patterns and textures. I also could have made a different type of pottery instead of a regular bowl. I also could have used different tools to create my bowl. I also could have painted my second artwork. Those are what I might have improved on.
5. How will you apply the skills you learned from this assignment in the real world, as an adult or in other classes while you are still a student?
This assignment will help me in the real world in many ways. First, I will be able to use pottery if I become an architect, designer, or an engineer. I could use it to create a scale model of the design of the building or machine. It will be very helpful to me since I am a visual/hands on learner. I would also use the different types of pottery designs/patterns as a designer. I could also use this skill in math because sometimes I get confused in cross-sections and building out the figure and cutting it up to find the cross section is very helpful for me.
