Rise Mission |
R–Reciprocate. Give back.
I – Initiate and Innovate. Change starts with you. S – Steward. Be an advocate for change. E - Elevate through Education. |
Reciprocate- I have given back my knowledge to the community by supporting them and also by helping them academically. I gave the peers/students advice and showed them strategies so they could improve academically.
Initiate and Innovate- I have tried many new things this year to cause a change. One thing I did is community service, I went to a food bank and helped pass out food. I also tutored students who are in a lower grade level and students who needed help in a specific area.
Steward- I made a positive change in school by helping students/guiding them through Study Island, recommending Reading Counts books. And also helping them be On Target and promote to High School.
Elevate through Education- I am improving through my education because I am learning more so I am prepared for college. I am also improving as a person because now I have the ability to share my knowledge with others.

Rkms vision |
RKMS will develop students who embrace a spirit of community, a goal of service to others, and a desire for self betterment through a college education.
|
I believe I had met the RKMS Vision in many different ways. I did this by embracing/supporting my homeroom and school in many different ways. I embraced my homeroom/school by helping students with reading counts and also academically. I also embraced the community by doing community service by serving at a food bank and also as a tutor. I served my peers/students by helping them in the area they need help in. I served the teachers by following directions and also participating in studies with an proper behavior. I am becoming a better student who will be ready for college by showing/following PREP and also by embracing the community and helping others.
Community Service Reflection
For the past few months, I have done 2 different types of community service. One type of community service I have participated in was at a food bank. Another type of community service I participated in was tutoring students. In this essay I want to reflect on my experience of doing community service at a food bank. The food bank I went to was called Young Hwa Food Bank and it was located around the downtown area. This food bank took place at a local church twice a month (every other Saturday).
I chose this site for community service because of many different reasons. One reason I chose this site was because I wanted to see how other people in Los Angeles live. Another reason was that it took place at the same location where I attend church and I got informed there was extra help needed. After I heard that they were in need of extra help, I volunteered to come help on Saturday. These are the reasons why I chose this site for community service.
The food bank I participated in changed me as a person because it helped me think and react differently than I used too. The first time I went to participate in the food bank I got to learn that there was a lot of people that were in need of food and that 1 out of 7 people in the US suffer from hunger. This fact changed me as a person because after this event I tried not to waste food. I tried to eat all the food that was on my plate and I encouraged other people in my society to not waste food. This is how community service changed me as person.
This food bank I participated in changed the community in many different ways. One way the service changed the community is that it helped second generations survive, which helps Los Angeles have a future. What I mean by this is, mostly everyone that was in line for food were parents with their little children and the donated food that we distributed helped those little children survive and not die of hunger. This changed the community because it helped the city of Los Angeles have a brighter future since there is more people (second generations) to make their communities a better place.
I can do many other things in the future to make the community be a better place. I could do other types of community service like volunteering at organizations, sharing my knowledge and etc. Education plays a role in me fulfilling this goal because if I want to share knowledge I would have to be able to learn. Then I would have to teach the audience about what I learned about. This shows that education plays a huge role in me fulfilling the goal because without education I won’t be able to learn about the information and share the knowledge to the community.
