1. JUSTIFY HOW THIS PROJECT/ACTIVITY/ASSIGNMENT MEETS THE STANDARD, USING EVIDENCE FROM THE STANDARD ITSELF TO DEMONSTRATE YOUR MASTERY AND/OR UNDERSTANDING.
There was two standards for this assignment it was Science and Engineering Practices 7 and 8. The standard/SEP 7 and 8 was to be able to engage in argument from evidence and it was also to be able to obtain, evaluate, and communicate information. I was able to engage an argument/debate against another group on why my planet (Mars) could sustain and why the opposing planet (Jupiter) could not sustain life. We had to support our claim using factual evidence about the planets. This assignment meets the standard because I had to obtain information about the planet from my peers, and I also had to evaluate the shared information. I did all this by communicating with each other and this shows why this assignment meets the standard.
2. ELABORATE ON AT LEAST 1 SCIENCE & ENGINEERING PRACTICES YOU FEEL YOU MET/GAINED FROM COMPLETING THIS PROJECT.
Out of the 8 different SEP's I feel like I gained the 7th SEP from completing this assignment which is to engage in argument from evidence. I gained the practices of engaging in argument from evidence because I was able to participate in a debate from participating in this assignment. In the debate I argued why my groups planet could sustain life using evidence that we researched about. We also had to use evidence to support why the opposing groups planet could not sustain life. This shows that me and my group members engaged in an argument/debate using supporting evidence to back up our claim.
3. UPON REFLECTING ON YOUR WORK/EXPERIENCE AND/OR SCORE, WHAT IS ONE SEP YOU COULD HAVE DONE BETTER ON? HOW WILL IMPROVING IN THIS SEP BENEFIT FUTURE WORK/PROJECTS? GIVE ME NEXT STEPS FOR IMPROVING IN THIS SEP.
Upon reflecting on my work I believe I could have done better on many different SEP's. One SEP I could have improved on is the 6th SEP which is constructing explanations & designing solutions. It was because at the end of the debate I could have done a better job concluding the debate. I also could have done a better job explaining the solutions of the factors/problems on the planet. Improving on this SEP will benefit me in the future because in future debates I would be able to clearly state my claim, I would also be able to plan a better conclusion for all different subjects.
4. HOW WILL YOU PRESENTLY APPLY THE CONTENT AND SKILLS YOU LEARNED FROM THIS ASSIGNMENT IN THE REAL-WORLD, OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM? MAKE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE CONTENT AND YOUR LIFE.
I could apply the skills I learned from this assignment in many different ways. In everyday life I would be able to support my claim using evidence. I would also be able to communicate and share opinions/information with other people. I could also apply the skills I have learned from this assignment in the real world if I study astronomy. I would be able to use the skills I have learned from this assignment to come up with solutions that solve the problem. I could also use this skill in future science classes and also on future tests like the CST/SBAC.
