Reflection
1. JUSTIFY HOW THIS PROJECT/ACTIVITY/ASSIGNMENT MEETS THE STANDARD, USING EVIDENCE FROM THE STANDARD ITSELF TO DEMONSTRATE YOUR MASTERY AND/OR UNDERSTANDING.
The main standard of the 13 colonies brochure is standard 5.4 Students understand the political, religious, social, and economic institutions that evolved in the colonial era. This means that to master this standard you will need to understand all of the different points (for example politics) that helped evolve the colonial era that led to the US today. Although there were sub-standards of standard 5.4 the main one is standard 5.4. This assignment masters the standard 5.4 because in our travel brochure we had to include the political, religious, social, and economic of the colonial times. My colony was Connecticut and I learned a lot after the bochure on this colony. I learned that Connecticut was found by Thomas Hooker, I learned that most of the income came from shipbuilding and fishing which changed the economy. I learned that colonists came to the New World because they wanted the church to be more pure (religion). All of these show that I mastered the standard/understood the standard 5.4 by doing this assignment.
2. ELABORATE ON AT LEAST 1 SKILL AND/OR STRENGTH YOU FEEL YOU GAINED FROM COMPLETING THIS PROJECT. (COLORING AND OR DRAWING ARE NOT SKILLS TO WRITE ABOUT - ELABORATE ON LIFE SKILLS YOU CAN TAKE OUT OF THIS PROJECT)
I have earned many strengths by doing this assignment. One of them is to make a travel brochure which could be a good type of resource. To make a travel brochure you need to find reliable and accurate evidence. I feel like I gained how to find accurate and reliable evidence by doing this assignment. I learned that all the information on the web isn't always correct. So I have learned the skill to double check if the information going on my brochure is accurate.
3. UPON REFLECTING ON YOUR WORK/SCORE, WHAT IS ONE AREA OF WORK YOU COULD HAVE DONE BETTER ON? HOW WILL IMPROVING IN THIS AREA BENEFIT FUTURE WORK/PROJECTS? (COLORING AND OR DRAWING ARE NOT SKILLS TO WRITE ABOUT - RESEARCH SKILLS, TIME MANAGEMENT, ETC…)
One area I could have improved on is time management. Like I answered in question 2, I learned the skill to double check but double checking takes twice as the time it should have. So it took me twice the original time and I also procrastinated. I also couldn't use plagiarism so I had to take the information and say it in my own words without changing the meaning which also took time. So if I had better time management of my travel brochure it could have been more better in terms of information.
4. HOW WILL YOU PRESENTLY APPLY THE CONTENT AND SKILLS YOU LEARNED FROM THIS ASSIGNMENT IN THE REAL WORLD? (OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM, PARTICULARLY IN TODAY’S SOCIETY) MAKE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE CONTENT AND YOUR LIFE.
I will use the information of the 13 colonies brochure in many ways. I could use it on future exams such as history finals/midterms/or quizzes. The location of the 13 colonies has not changed a lot since back then so it will also help me locate some of the states today. I could also become a US History teacher, historian and much more. This can also help me in future classes because I can use the technique to create a brochure to organize information and much more.
